    • Stephen Hardacre & Ann Pearson. Nothing in the record to link them to Haworth, but to date we have identified no other Stephen Hardaker alive around this time to link this marriage to.
    Notes
    • If Ann was around 20 when she married Stephen, she would have been close to 50 when Joseph was born. Unlikely, but not impossible. The 11 year gap between John and Martha is also of some concern. None of the baptism records for these children included the name of the mother, so it is entirely possible that Ann died following the birth of son John, and the rest of the children belong to a different (unknown) woman. We have no death/burial or marriage records to support this theory however.

St. Michael and All Angels is the parish church of Haworth, a village about 9 miles west of Bradford. The earliest Hardaker event recorded at St. Michael’s was the baptism of Abraham by Stephen Hardaker in February 1669. Descendants of Stephen can be found in the Haworth church records over the next two hundred years.

Stephen Carr has attempted to interpret the rather sub-standard genealogical data available from the Haworth register in this paper.
