    Our link to the Pullein family comes through Mary Pullan, the wife of John Hardaker of Idle. Mary was born in Idle in 1786 and died there in 1854. She and John had ten children, among them Samuel Hardaker, father of John Lee Hardaker.

    • Will of Samuel Pull en of All Alone, Township of Idle, Parish of Calverley, Gentleman, proved 1845, Vol 212b, folio 243, Borthwick Institute.
      To my daughter Ann Pullen all my personal estate and effects for her own use and benefit.
      To my friend William White the younger of All Alone esq. and my grandson Thomas Pullen of All Alone grave stone cutter their heirs and assigns, all my messuages, cottages, buildings, stone quarries and land at All Alone and elsewhere on trust - they are to pay to my daughter Ann all rents and profits during the continuance of a lease to Mr John Sharp of the stone within and under my farm at All Alone if she so long lives.
      From those rents and profits Ann is to pay all my debts and funeral expenses and also 5 each to my daughters Mary Hardaker, Jane Bradley, Lydia Firth and Hannah Pullen. Ann is to use what is left over to pay and keep down the interest to grow during the lease upon the principal sum of 700 now owing by me and secured on a mortgage of my estate at All Alone. She is also to pay an annuity of 8 to my sister Mary for life.
      After resolutions of the lease, William White and Thomas Pullen are to sell all my said messuages, lands and stone quarries. From the money obtained -
      - to pay all costs
      - to invest 20 in the savings bank at Bradford and to pay the interest thereof to Henry Watkinson illegitimate son of my granddaughter Elizabeth Dale when he is 21.
      - To pay to Thomas Pullen who is the illegitimate son of my daughter Mary Hardaker 20.
      The remainder is to be divided into 7 parts - one part each to my daughters, Mary, Ann, Jane, Lydia and Hannah; my granddaughter Elizabeth Dale; and the children of my late daughter Sarah Garland when they are 21.
      William White, Thomas Pullen and my daughter Ann Pullen to be joint executors.

      Mortgage
      On 13 Feb 1808 Samuel Pullan/Pulleyn/Pullen, yeoman, and Ann his wife took out a mortgage with Sarah Ingram of Kirksgill in Adel, widow on a capital messuage etc. built by Samuel Ellis and a cottage near there called All Alone in Idle, and a farm and 8 closes called the 2 High Fields, Hodgson Closes, 3 Hare Butts, and the Idlaws, and a newly erected messuage etc. and a close called Well Field, in Idle, and a cottage in Idle. (Ref: Bradford Archives MM52/34).
