    • Vernon appears to have served in the military during WW1, possibly in the 31st Battalion. He enlisted on 6 Jan 1916 in Queensland and embarked on 21 Oct 1916 from Brisbane and then on 10 Jan 1917 from Plymouth for France. He was wounded in France and was evacuated on the 31st Ambulance Train with a gun shot wound to the hand & leg. [4]
