  • Notes
    • Unmarried. Living with his elder brother Smith Brown in 1851. By 1871 he was still unmarried, aged 74, living near Edward and Mary nee Stansfield. He was 74, a 'gentleman'. He was living in the househeaded by Hannah Brown #481, described as her uncle. Other household members were Ellen #479, sister of Hannah, 49, deaf, Ann E Hodgson #2020, niece of Hannah, unmarried, 21, a cloth burler and Thomas Hodgson #2013, nephew, unmarred, 19, a joiner.

Nex door was Ann E White #290, a widow living alone, 50, an annuitant (see below).

He was still alive in 1881, aged 84, an annuitant and head of a household of women, all described as his nieces. They were Ann E White #290, widow, 63 (previously living next door), Ellen Brown #479, unmarried, 61, Hannah Brown #481, unmarried 51, described as an imbicile (but previously head of the household), Elizabeth Hodgson, unmarred, 30 (I presume Ann Elizabth #2020) and Alberta Hodgson, 7 (not yet identified, but registered at Bradford in 1873 1st quarter as Alberta Mary W Hodgson, vol. 9b, page 258 - my guess is that she was an illegitimate daughter of Ann Elizabeth). None of the people in the housheold apart from William were assigned any occupation.
