  • Notes
    • Known as Jack. Born at 41[?], Leeds Rd, Thackley (parents home at time. He attended Thackley Primary School and then Belle Vue Grammar School, Manningham Lane, Bradford.

In about 1912 he got a job with Wm Rees and Co Ltd in Bradford, a textile firm, where he working in the sample room, making patterns of the cloths the company had for sale. In 1916 he volunteered to join the Army to fight in the First World War, retuning to Wm Rees and Co after the war.

He married in 1933. He and Edith were living at 45 Norman Drive, Eccleshill at time of marriage, Edith's parents having both died. Witnesses were Leonard Hutchinson, John Thomas Ball and Elizabeth Gowan. Leonard Hutchinson was a friend of Jack's. John Thomas Ball was Edith's uncle, eldest brother of her late father, and Elizabeth Gowan was a friend of Edith's, I think from her college days (if not earlier).

He left Wm Rees and Co in 1961 to join the textile business started by his brother Richard - R Hardaker and Co Ltd, initially in Bradford. He worked there through the Second World War and retired in 1961.

He died at home at 3 Barthorpe Crescent, Chapel Allerton, Leeds with his wife and some of his family around him. He was cremated at Airedale & Wharfedale Crematorium, Rawdon.
