Notes - We are not entirely sure that we have the right Henry Hardacre as the father of seven children baptised at Kirkby Malham between 1725 and 1738. Henry the son of Richard and Eleanor née Kendall was born about the right time (aged about 30 when son John was born), and we have not found an early burial record, or another likely marriage record for him. For these reasons we consider him to be a possible candidate.
A number of other family history researchers have Henry of Kirkby Malham born in 1687/88 and marrying Eleanor Stoney in 1716 at Ingleton. While we have been able to verify the marriage, we have been unable to independently verify the birth/baptism. It is certainly possible that Eleanor Stoney was the mother of Henry's children, but it is a little odd that there is no record of any children born to this couple between 1716 and 1725 (baptism of son John). We have been unable to find a burial for Eleanor at Kirkby Malham, but we do have a burial for an Ann Hardacre, wife of Henry, in 1740. Unfortunately we have been unable to find a marriage between Henry and Ann. It is possible that Eleanor was known as Ann for some reason, but for now we do not think that there is sufficient evidence to support the theory that Eleanor and Ann are the same person, so we are recording Henry's wife as Ann, maiden name unknown.
There is some evidence supporting the idea that Henry of Kirkby Malham was the son of Richard and Eleanor née Kendall. He named his second son Richard (after his father), and named a daughter Thomasin (we believe that Henry's father Richard had a second wife named Thomasin, a somewhat unusual name at the time). Also, Henry named a son Alexander, and if we have things right, he had a younger brother with this name.
