She was 23, a spinster also of Rusholme, daughter of Thomas Meakin, a banksman*. Both appear to have signed - the certificate is a copy but seems to be a photocopy of the register entry. Witnesses were Joseph and Ann Jones.
* A banksman is usually defined as a surface worker in the mining industry who was in charge of the cages at the pit head (www.worldthroughthelens.com, Old English Occupations). Thomas was born at Chesterton, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, a town where both coal and iron ore were mined.

Notes - Born at Chapel House, Harpurs Gate. He was at Rusholme, Manchester at the time of his marriage. He was recorded as a Coachman and Domestic Servant at Knott Lane, Rawdon in 1881 Census but he was said to be a draper at time of marriage of his son William in 1898.
