Notes - There must be a story behind the marriage of this couple. William was about 36 when he married Mary aged just 15. It seems probable that William had gotten Mary pregnant and married her prior to the birth, this being the honourable thing at the time. However we have to date not found a child born to the couple in the nine months following the marriage, so this theory remains unproven.
- William and Mary appear to have had at least two children. Charles Rooney (born 14 Sep 1855, Singapore, Bengal, India) and Harriet Isabella (born 16 Mar 1857, Vizagapatam, Madras, India).
