Notes - The marriage of Richard and Alice was recorded in Oliver Heywood's Nonconformist Register and also in the register of Halifax church, from this we can be confident that they were nonconformists. In those days, that almost certainly meant that they were Quakers, Presbyterian or Baptists. The Quakers married in the faith and good Quaker records were kept. Since Richard and Alice's marriage is not in the Quaker records of the time we have grounds to suppose that one or both of Richard and Alice were either Presbyterian or Baptist. Alice's family came from Northowram which was strongly Presbyterian due to the influence of Oliver Heywood who lived there for many years. We also know that Richard was "of Guiseley", and we have reason to believe that the couple returned to the Guiseley area following their marriage.
- We believe that Richard and Alice were part of the congregation at the Buckstone Baptist chapel between around 1735 and 1760, and quite possibly named their children there. With no known birth/death records for Buckstone chapel prior to about 1750, it is probable that Richard and Alice had a number of children for whom we have no record.
