Histories Research on the Richard Hardacres of Long Preston (1669-1700)
There were at least three Richard Hardacres baptising children at Long Preston church during the latter part of the 17th century. Working out which children belong to which Richard is not at all easy. This paper details my efforts to solve this problem.

Notes - We have a burial in July 1732 of a Tomasin Hardacre, recorded as "relict of Richard of Hellifield". Relict means wife of deceased. We know of two Richards living at Hellifield around this time - this one and his son, Richard #4004, born in 1684. Both of them married and had children at Hellifield. Unfortunately we do not know when the wives of either of these Richards died. Complicating things further, we have been unable to find a record of a marriage between a Richard Hardacre and a Tomasin at or close to Long Preston in the years prior to this burial in 1732. We know of two burials of Richard Hardacres of Hellifield - one in March 1731/1732 and one in August 1741. We have guessed that the older Richard died first, and if that is right, it would appear that this Richard formed a common-law union with a woman named Tomasin after the death of his wife Eleanor, and Tomasin evidently died not long after Richard did.
