- Ambrose and Ellen are something of a mystery. We don't have a baptism for Ambrose, so we don't know where or when he was born. We also don't have a marriage record for the couple, so we don't know Ellen's maiden name. We know when she was buried, but that is all we know about her. The family disappear from the records entirely after the burial of Ellen in 1686, so we don't know what happened to Ambrose or to any of the four children that we know about. There is a 30 year gap in the Long Preston baptism records just prior to the birth of Alice in 1661, so it is quite possible that there were other children born to this couple that we have no record of.
